Development of Semi - coarsening Techniques
نویسنده
چکیده
Departing from Mulder's semi-coarsening technique for rst-order PDEs, the notion of a grid of grids is introduced and a multi-level nite-volume technique for second order elliptic PDEs is developed. Various grid-transfer operators are investigated, in combination with damped Jacobi-relaxation. Convergence rates as they are predicted by Fourier local mode analysis are compared with practical measurements. The wide variety of grids at our disposal leads to the notion of coherent representations of a function on di erent grids. A sawtooth multi-level algorithm is proposed for the case of multiple semi-coarsening. A hierarchical set of basis-functions for nite volumes on sparse grids is brie y discussed. A Robust Multigrid Algorithm for the EulerEquations with Local Preconditioningand Semi-coarsening
A semi-coarsened multigrid algorithm with a point block Jacobi, multi-stage smoother for second-order upwind discretizations of the two-dimensional Euler equations which produces convergence rates independent of grid size for moderate subsonic Mach numbers is presented. By modification of this base algorithm to include local preconditioning for low Mach number flows, the convergence becomes lar...
متن کاملDirectional Coarsening and Smoothing for Anisotropic Navier-Stokes Problems
Unstructured multigrid techniques for relieving the stiffness associated with high-Reynolds number viscous flow simulations on extremely stretched grids are investigated. One approach consists of employing a semi-coarsening or directional-coarsening technique, based on the directions of strong coupling within the mesh, in order to construct more optimal coarse grid levels. An alternate approach...
متن کاملCoarsening kinetics from a variable-mobility Cahn-Hilliard equation: application of a semi-implicit Fourier spectral method.
An efficient semi-implicit Fourier spectral method is implemented to solve the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a variable mobility. The method is orders of magnitude more efficient than the conventional forward Euler finite-difference method, thus allowing us to simulate large systems for longer times. We studied the coarsening kinetics of interconnected two-phase mixtures using a Cahn-Hilliard equ...
متن کاملMultigrid Methods for Anisotropic Edge Refinement
A nite element method with optimal convergence on non-smooth three dimensional domains requires anisotropic mesh reenement towards the edges. Multigrid methods for anisotropic tensor product meshes are available and are based either on line (or plane) smoothers or on semi-coarsening strategies. In this paper we suggest and analyze a new multigrid scheme combining semi-coarsening and line smooth...
متن کاملAn efficient semi-coarsening multigrid method for variable diffusion problems in cylindrical coordinates
In this paper, we present an efficient multigrid (MG) algorithm for solving the three-dimensional variable coefficient diffusion equation in cylindrical coordinates. The multigrid V-cycle combines a semi-coarsening in azimuthal direction with the red-black Gauss–Seidel plane (radial-axial plane) relaxation. On each plane relaxation, we further semi-coarsen the axial direction with red-black lin...
